【The difficulty of Champion】

Image
“I’m so confused” He won the title of champion, which had been his goal all his life. He got wealth and fame and what he wanted to. He acquired everything that people envy, and yet he feels as if he has a big empty spot in his heart.  In childhood He was born in March and was smaller and cuter than anyone his age. Because he looked so young, people around him always cheered him on more than others. And ever since he was a child, he had always practiced by looking up to someone else. One of his respectful example was Jack. Sometimes they are rivals, sometimes they support each other, and sometimes they respect each other. Jack always gives him the watchword "Be strong, be energetic, and do your best” when he steps onto the field just before the start of a game, when he is unsure of himself.  One day Jack started to stand out, even though he had thought he was on a level playing field as Jack, and began to grow impatient. He made up his mind to go to the field, and even

Sticks mean the rival. the text is pressed by sticks[rival] and waving the text “champion” means The stake that sticks out gets hammered in. or The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.  =Those who are talented are envied and hindered by others.

【What is the HOME for me】

Image
My home is an American football field at Waseda university. There are a lot of yellow balls and lacrosse sticks. The field was filled with greenery and so quiet, not busy although in Tokyo. Sometimes the entire field is covered with fog. I love the contrast between the green of the lawn and the blue and orange of the sky at sunrise. In the winter morning, when I head to the field to get ready for practice, it's still so dark that I can't do anything without turning on the lights. The presence of the sun peeking through the trees released me from the pain of getting up at 4:30 every morning. For me, the American football field is an indispensable place to purify my mind.         The family for me is my teammate on the lacrosse team. They run around the field wearing red shirts written WASEDA with collar and black skort. They are my sun and inspire me by their efforts. We are like "Orange Circle" because the whole team is so passionate about practicing together in pursu

The presence of the sun peeking through the trees released me from the pain of getting up at 4:30 every morning. For me, the American football field is an indispensable place to purify my mind. The second family for me is my teammate on the lacrosse team. They are my sun and inspire me with their efforts. We are an "Orange Circle" because the whole team is so passionate about practicing together in pursuit of "Victory.” I’m proud to have found such precious members with whom I can talk a

Independence of Jeannette [Final paper for The Glass Castle ]

“The Glass Castle” written by Jeannette Walls hails the independence of the writer. The reason behind her independence as a child was because her parents did not care or do enough for their children. It was because of this independence as a child, Jeannette grew up to be such a successful adult. Raising young Jeannette to be independent was a good reason for her mother to neglect Jeannette. At only 3 years old, she made a hotdog all by herself, and also she said, “For me, making hotdogs is relatively easy.” Although the average three-year-old is barely old enough to eat, go to the bathroom, and get dressed by herself, she does most things by herself. From there, It's clear that many people would envy her for being so intelligent. But she grew up in an environment where she had to say, as her mother always said, "You are mature for your age. It’s just brainwashing that she will cook her own meals and will understand that this is normal, and can be communicated as if it is no

【My outline of The Glass Castle】

Intro This paper wil explore “The Glass Castle” written by Jeannette Walls mainly about the independence of the main character called Jeannette. The theme of this paper is why she is so independent although she was young? Since this story is separated into two-part, the first paragraph mentions the first part of her adulthood, and the second and third paragraphs mention the second one her childhood comparing both of her ages. Body 1]Went to NY herself [Park avenue] central area, tried to make a home herself 2]Cooking by herself “Mommy, help me” said, not just screaming. Adutish For her, making hotdog is relatively easy mother said "You are mature for your age" Parental ego? 3]In the hospital, Good communicated with the nu rse doctor,  She got interest in that doctor said for her mother not for her “I heard him telling her that it was very seriously” “Look, I’m a half mummy” Told or explain the doctor and nurse to why she has alot of  injure Just looking at the action of the

【Reaction to chapter 2】

Image
What struck me most when I read Chapter 2 was that she doesn't look only 3 years old, as the nurse and doctor in the story also said “You are so smart and could read as well as a six years old.” Making a hotdog herself, not just crying out but shrieking “help me” when she suffered a burn was a sentent that showed she was independent. Of course she is excellent, but it is also true that she is placed in an environment where she has to be. In addition to this, her mother always says you're mature for your age. When I read this sentence, I recognize it as a parental ego, not as a way to praise and develop the child at all. If parents tell their daughters it, they can make their children think that the average 3 year old is supposed to make her own food, and it is the mother less task at home for her to do. It’s just reaction, but as I mentioned in my reaction paper for Chapter 1, I found the way the footsteps were represented in this story interesting. By describing t

【Reaction to Chapter 1】

When I read this first time, I wondered why the level of happiness [like what is rich or poor, what situation is fulfilled] is different, although their relationship is just parent and daughter. However through yesterday’s class, I found something that gives me a clue to the answer. In my opinion, If we take the Japanese way of thinking, children are raised according to their mother's way of thinking, so they often think basically the same way. On the other hand, since this story was written by the author in the US, I saw this as a manifestation of personal independence. In the third paragraph, she was reluctant to reveal the secret which is her mother is like a homeless person. So it means that her mother is someone she wants to hide and does not want people to know about. From this statement, I grasped that for her, her mother was an entity that she wanted to disconnect from her. As I read through Chapter 1, she even attempts to help her mother financially. And the mother refuses

【My first impression of Yale】

Image
My first impression of Yale was “Friendly” In my opinion, it’s an experience we can't have in Japan. I have met many occasions feeling ‘friendly’, although I've only been in the US for three days.  The first scene was when I arrived at the Yale check-in center. While one staff member was showing me how to check in, the others were chatting over eating apples or granola bars! The informal atmosphere relieved me, as I was nervous about living abroad for the first time outside of travel. After that, most happened in the dining room. On the first day, I couldn’t find where the dining room is and when I asked a girl nearby, she answered that “we're just heading to the dining room too, so follow us!” as a result we ate together. Second, happened last night. While we ate dinner at the dining, two girls came to sit next to us. Just before we were kicked out of the dining room at 7:30, we spoke with them, just to introduce ourselves. From there, our conversation grew and t
